Two revision.

daytona coupe Pictures, Images and Photos

Okay, recently I got on the factory five forums (FFCars.com/forums) and I had a post on my build thread about the construction of my blog. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a good writer and cars excite me to the point that I can barely form a coherent sentence. So I'm going to try and redo this, the only problem is that since my first post I've waned slightly from my original build plan...this is expected.

I have two build plans now. the major difference being the powertrain. I know everything I want in my car except for the powertrain. I don't think I'll need much over 400hp. But the sound!! The sound is what gets me!!

My second revision...

I need my car to sound like this: Low, Aggressive Rumble. Cams that give it that off tempo "ka-chug" sound at a roll. Revs loud but not deafening, I want it to be enjoyable flying down the highway.

Engine
Goals: Lots of power to propel the car as fast as I'll want to, not overpowering the weight of the car, amazing sound, hot cams, high revving.

The fix: A Ford Cobra Engine EZ-EFI Turnkey crate engine. Either the 302 or the 351W (Leaning toward the 302. More nostalgic IMHO) The 302 cranks out 350hp which isn't a ton, but when you consider that the car weighs 2k lbs at the max that's still 5.7lb to hp ratio. The 351W would do 5lbs to hp... Which is outstanding considering the 2011 mustang GT has a ratio of 9.2lb to hp and the 2011 camaro ss is roughly 9.4lb to hp. The car is just so incredibly light, it's corvette-light.

The Transmission:
Goals: Smooth, clean shifting, 2 overdrives for hwy mpg while at the same time having a closer ratio with the first few gears for the sake of extreme acceleration.

The fix: Tremec t56 6-speed shifter. This is the biggest baddest tranny I could find. Rated at 400-550 ft/lb it'll withstand ANYTHING that I decide to drop in there. I love the two overdrives. I want to look more into it, I might end up going with the TKO 500 5-spd. I hear that one is really good for gas on the hwy.

The suspension:
Goals: Smooth ride while being able to handle any corner I throw at it.

The fix: IRS seems to be the way of the future, even Ford is going to IRS with their 2014 Mustangs. I'd rather not be left behind so I'll do IRS also. I don't know what kind I'll be getting, maybe I'll just stick with the stock FFR IRS system, maybe I'll find something better between now and when I finally purchase everything.

The Brakes:
Goals: Extreme deceleration for cornering, uber sensitive brake pedal.

The fix: Brembos...need I say more? I do, but I honestly don't know what kind I'll be needing, what will fit, etc etc.

Building a car is much like putting a puzzle together, all the pieces have to fit perfectly.

Notes:

A strong powertrain, possibly blow the 5.0. I believe Ford makes a factory-warranty bolt-on supercharger that'll up the hp to pushing 600.

This I like. Lots of room for improvement in the Coyote engine. I just can't see any wrong reason for using this massive powerhouse. Yes, it weighs 4XXlbs

which sounds heavy, but well worth the 400-odd hp I'll have. Who knows? Maybe the custom headers/exhaust will add some more horsies, plus the blower,

oh yes, I'm liking this idea.

The transmission I chose for a couple reasons, rated at 600 ft-lb of torque It will easily handle and mods I do to the engine, plus it's supposed to be very reliable. I think that 3rd gear goes out, but that might be a difference transmission I was reading about. I'll look into that more later.

IRS, well duh, I want the smoothest ride money can buy. People say IRS is bad for the 1320'. But from what I've seen on modern cars this is (while not being untrue) not enough to deter me from the benefits of IRS. Not to mention I plan on actually DRIVING this car, not just going fast in a straight line.

I love the design of the swing axle, last night I was up for hours trying to design an axle to do what I wanted...I came up with something that would work. Then I looked up IRS and BOOM, my swing axle. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to take credit for the design of the swing axle, hardly so, I'm trying to say the swing axle is exactly what I want in a rear suspension.

The wheels I chose are for a couple reasons also. Large tires look nice. 17", while not exaclty large, are big for a car this size. Wider in the rear (10.5") will make traction less of a problem when quickly accelerating. Not sure what tires I’ll be getting yet, so many choices…must investigate further.

The paint is as shown above, torn between the classic blue or the Bad-to-the-Bone looking Black/Silver. Either way I'm fairly certain I'll be drooling a tad everything I open my garage door.

The Options: PS and PB seems fairly self explanatory. A/C I hear might be a room issue. I believe FFR is going to start selling kits with parts for the Coyote. Maybe I'm being hopeful. Either way I'll be able to fab something up. The headers from the coyote won't fit I don't think. fab fab fab...

The idea of all of this is to build a legendary car with legendary parts.

Legendary car - the shape, the history, the performance...everything about the Shelby coupe screams perfection.

Legendary parts - All the parts I want to use are built around one thing, the Coyote. The Coyote is the rebirth of a legend.

I imagine If I put a legendary powertrain into a legendary car...maybe I'll have a legend of my own, no, not world recognition legendary, not nationally either. I want a car that will be a legend among others like it. Something with power to make run-of-the-mill rice burner scared to come outside. Yet with a skilled driver, have the potential to be a daily-driver.

EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE!!!

These are my findings, this is my first revision.
